Norway’s best ski resorts, renewed and improved, are opening up for the new ski season on November, 1-2 2012, according to the country’s tourist board.
The oldest ski resort in Norway – Geilo – opens for cross-country skiers on Thursday, November 1, and since November 3 for downhill skiers. Also on Sunday, November 3, the lift near the slope Sonjaløypa starts its operation.
Though, the official opening of the season is scheduled for November 23, thanks to an abundance of snow and lifts, the season will begin earlier this year.
Since November 2, the season at a ski resort Kvitfjell begins. This ski resort is also called call “A kingdom of speed” due to the possibility to speedy running on its slopes. The concentration of interesting descents and a unique relief make Kvitfjell especially attractive for tourists.
Resort operating time: daily from 09:30 till 17:30, evening driving – on Friday, Tuesday, Thursday, from 17:30 till 20:00.
The artificial snow-making is at full speed on all slopes of the resort, and on Friday the slope of Familiebakken and the lift Familieheisen will open.
The Norwegian capital of extreme sports Voss with its new (opened in 2003) and actively extending resort Voss Fjellandsby which is located in Myrkdalen, only 25 km from Voss, doesn’t lag behind in preparation for a new mountain-skiing season. Since November 1, seven lifts and 15 slopes will operate.
In December, a new Myrkdalen Hotell opens at the resort Voss Fjellandsby, with 112 rooms, several restaurants, a cafe and a bar. The hotel is located on the principle of ski in-ski out.
Resort operating time: from November to January: 09:30 to 15:30, in February – from 09:30 to 16:00, in March and April – from 09:30 to 16:00 (on weekends – 16:30). Night skiing: on Fridays from 18:00 to 21:00 (starting from December 14).
Norwegian popular resort for those who like to have a good time with family, Hemsedal opens the new season on November 1. The level of natural snow cover is up to 40 cm. The first lift begins its work on 1 November, and skiing in the children’s area Begynnerløypa will be free. On Friday, November 2, lifts and slopes of Hollvin Express, Hemsedalløypa, Ulven and Trolløypa will open. Also, since November 2, restaurants, cafes and shops will open, which will operate as usual.
This weekend (on November 3 and 4), there is a 10% discount on ski passes, acquired in Hemsedal Skisenter, in Hemsedal.
Resort operating time: from 09:00 to 16:30. Night skiing: from 18:00 to 20:30 (four days a week, from mid-December).
The novelty of the coming season – morning and night skiing are included in the ski pass fee, valid from one day.
From 3 November, 2 slopes of Trysil will open – 2400 and 600 meters, and two lifts. Cross-country skiers can also expect the beginning of the season, as in addition to snowmaking systems, heavy snowfall is expected this week.
